I finally fixed this thing. It's time to write something with actual
importance: we've got some sort of animal in bio-containment, and it seems to
be thriving in the habitat built for it.
The creature resembles a Sol-origin rodent, or "mouse" as the guys working
with it say. The adults are about the size of my clenched fist. They have
weird noses and huge, veiny ears. Take "adults" with a grain of salt as they
seem to have an unusual method of reproducing.
Originally, only one was captured from its home planet (coordinates attached).
Over time, as it ate, it got bigger. After a few cycles, TWO of the creatures
were found in the habitat, each half the size of the original one. Camera
footage revealed that these rodents somehow undergo mitosis as if they were
bacteria. Since then, the population has doubled twice more, leaving us with 8
individuals.
The science guys say that we're eventually going to need to cull the
populations of these rodents. The ship chef apparently thinks that if their
meat is tasty, they could help provide an additional source of protein for our
rations. I'm not protesting but I do hope these little guys aren't poisonous.
One of the bio guys says he wants to be the first to taste the meat. I don't
want to be there when THAT happens!
