Isla Ristol - Aventuras en Marte
Entrada 2x2
Aunque no

Transmission Log - Orestes
Author: Pink
---------------------------------------------------------------
Auto-generating preface...
A log by PINK. She complains about her fellow human-inhabitant,
GREEN. Unfairly, I believe. She has yet to grasp his true purpose
among the group, as has he. Which is ironic, because the
remainder of the log is about the importance of patiently
observing in order to discern a deeper meaning. It seems her
patience only extends in certain directions.
She ends by mentioning a quasi-spiritual experience with the
crystals. This is unfortunate. She is beginning to sound like
NAVY. She was initially hired for her exceptional scientific
mind, but perhaps the years spent in Orestes have begun to take
their toll. Please send recommendations regarding potential
replacements.
-END-OF-PREFACE-
---------------------------------------------------------------
I see GREEN has been at the logs again. Nine drafted. Seven
deleted before sending. How juvenile he is.
He never remembers to delete the ones he sent either. They're
still sitting here on the terminal for anyone to read. Actually,
that was probably his intention. And, for the record, I only ate
the last apple because its been our 'last apple' for two years
now and I was fed up listening to him go on about it.
It is not his job to send these, he is not qualified for it. He
isn't qualified for much, to be honest.
The following is the actual update. Please disregard the previous
logs by GREEN.
The crystals show extraordinary promise.
There's an old science fiction story, about a tiny species who
visit earth to see whether intelligent life exists. These
creatures are so small and with such a high rate of metabolism
that they perceive the passage of time at a much higher rate
than we do.
So, when they arrive, all they 'perceive' are these static,
statue-like creatures (us), that move so slowly it seems
like they move without any will or purpose. The creatures leave
earth and conclude there is no intelligent life there.
Maybe they wait for like a year in their time, which is maybe a
few seconds in our time. I don't know, I can't remember the story
well, but I hope you get my point.
GREEN is impatient, like those micro-creatures from the story.
Intelligence can take many forms. If you observe something,
anything, for long enough, a pattern emerges. I observe the
crystals constantly. Whenever I can. I know that something is
happening. Most likely, its happening underneath the surface.
What we know for certain about the crystals has already been
reported and is, admittedly, a little thin. Their behaviour
remains unchanged - they brighten slightly with increases in
atmospheric pressure. I initially described is as a 'glow', but
I'd probably have to correct that. It's just a slight change in
their shade of red. We were probably projecting some of our
expectations when we described it as a glow. There are still the
same amount of them, 133 withing 5km of our base. We've yet to
travel and survey much farther with the equipment we have on
hand. I admit, I am a bit disappointed that there is no real
change in their population, but I still suspect some activity is
going on somewhere, somehow, just slightly beyond our horizon of
understanding.
We also, of course, have NAVY's 'records' of the crystals. If I
have some doubts about GREENS value to the mission, I am still
absolutely dumbfounded by NAVY's presence here. Sometimes I
wonder whether this is truly a scientifically-motivated
expedition, or whether some higher-ups have notions about NAVY's
claims regarding the 'elixir' qualities of the crystals...Anyway,
I've gone on enough about these points in previous updates.
Well then, why did I say that they show extraordinary promise?
As I said, I observe them constantly, although 'observing' them
isn't really the right term. I set up the equipment, and sit and
wait. There isn't much to really keep track of here, so I often
find myself spacing out a bit.
Recently, during these periods, I've been having something akin
to 'dreams'. I'm in a city. An empty city. And everything is
tinted in the same red colour as the crystals. It's like the sun
is setting and casting its glow over the city, only the glow
doesn't follow the usual rules of light and physics. When I
move around, go to shaded parts of the city, or even indoors, the
glow remains.
I just wander the city, for hours sometimes. There's nothing
there. It's peaceful.
My theory is that these are not simply hallucinations or
daydreams, I believe the crystals may be communicating something
to me.
I know, I know. Just a moment ago I was complaining about NAVY's
fanatical theories regarding the crystals. But this is different.
It has already been established (albeit controversially) that
psychic modes of communication can be initiated between humans
and alien populations. The modes of communication in the universe
are myriad (just look at the power of the QEC). Why couldn't it
be scientifically viable that the crystals simply operate on a
different wavelength than the one we usually operate on?
There is more to tell, but I can hear GREEN shuffling around
outside the room. He seems agitated about something. Signing off
for now.

absoluta.
¡Micaela está enamorada de José Gabriel! Yo la vi ... ¡ay, no puedo decirlo!
Además no entiendo, no entiendo.

¡Eh! Mi padre me acaba de mandar un mensaje QEC a mi
comunicador. ¡Está en español, son argentinos, argentinos
en Epsilon Eridani! (Suena raro)

Usuario: Capitan Lukács

Fecha: 16 de Marzo, 2262

Hora: 22:12

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
No sabemos si nuestros predecesores lograran llegar a

Habrá cosas buenas, conoceré a niños

¡Vamos a bajar a Marte!

¡Es la super-emoción! Mañana aterrizamos en Marte. Supongo

Transmission Log - Orestes
Author: Green
---------------------------------------------------------------
Auto-generating preface...
A transmission log by GREEN. He thinks the messages aren't
reaching anyone. He philosophizes about the concept of life. He
complains about his fellow human-inhabitants at the Orestes.
Thank you for sending the mining equipment, I'll distribute it to
the crew when the time seems fitting, as per your recommendation.
-END-OF-PREFACE-
---------------------------------------------------------------
You still haven't sent the mining equipment, or anything for that
matter. Lending credence to my theory that these messages aren't
reaching anyone.
I still, for some reason, feel the desire to update you. There
are things to tell. Events that happen. Even in this remote
corner of the universe, populated only by three people and a
bunch of strange, inert, red crystals, things happen.
If reminds me of something a philosopher once said, when talking
about 'life' (Life, after all, and the inexplicable human desire
to find more of it, is why we're here).
We usually think of things beginning when life appears. That
is, before life, there are no real 'events'. Life is activity,
motion, desire, growth. In absence of life, there are just rocks
planets, stars, etc. We are fascinated about the question of the
beginning of life, that strange moment when one cell first
divides into two.
But, the philosopher said, there is no life without difference
and before what we call 'life' appeared there was difference. The
universe is full of differences. Or, to be more exact, the
universe made up of of processes, and processes are just a series
of differentiations.
We think of life as continuous, as having a history (genealogy),
a clear beginning and end. But this sense of life, the one that
we cling to so dearly, the reason we voyage out into the void in
search of it, this sense of life is a construct. A story we tell
ourselves to try to make sense of the constant differentiation
and change. Underneath it all is the force of pure difference;
the relation between this molecule and another, between a 1 and a
0, between the geology of this 'dead' rock floating in space and
'that' one. So, if you're tracking a process of differentiation
across the universe, 'events' are happening all the time.
Not with these crystals though. There really is nothing going on
with them, in any sense.
All that's been happening are the overly-familiar kinds of
'events'. PINK ate the last of the apples. I couldn't believe it.
She ate it right in front of me, like it was a perverse act of
sadism. I don't get her sometimes. She is usually so calm and
rational.
NAVY is sulking or has taken a vow of silence or something and
has become as unresponsive as the crystals. I ended up screaming
my head off at him the other night. I feel bad about it now.
These kinds of 'events' tire me. I wish sometimes I could be less
'me', less 'alive', and just be a pebble on the beach or
something. Being slowly eroded by a wave.

I left Ganymede yesterday evening. What a nice
time to start a journey. The sky was freaking red.
Anyway now I am already few thousand files away.
I was just staring at the window for a couple of
minutes now, I mean it would be a waste if I did
not enjoy the scene of leaving this beautiful sphere.
I turned on the auto pilot mode. Sat down at my
small table, popped open a cold sprunk and opened
my Thinkpad. Played with it for a couple of minutes,
read some articles I've saved to the hard drive.
I have already passed beyond the area with internet.
So now until I get to Callisto. It's just me and the
QEC.
Oh, what is this! there are some articles about
some hacktivists cyber protesting against government's
decision to join hands with proprietary software
companies. I wonder why those people can't
understand that sometimes, history repeats. We humans
have already destroyed a beautiful planet. Thanks to
capitalism, stupid organizations and arrogant rulers.
I kind of feel like I am having some mental
issues. Sometimes I act like I care about the
universe. But sometimes I become ruthless and stupid.
Whatever sometimes I just wonder, if how things
good it could have been if I got to spend my
childhood with the nature. Trees, animals and beautiful
sunsets.
Instead of that, thanks to our capitalist and
communist ancestors I had to live among the dirt,
killing rats and stealing from humans. Thinking about
that past make my anger towards humans pop up
just like a small spark of fire hidden in the ashes.
There are multiple occasions I felt like I want to
blow up everyone.
Hmmm this sprunk is nice. I closed down my Thinkpad,
got up did some stretchings. And came back to the
pilot compartment. I wonder if how many, or what
kind of people do read my logs.

Hello there space pirates, hope you guys
are doing just fine. Tomorrow I am going
to start my flight to Callisto. So today
I had to stop by a town called 'Hornsey'.
It was a busy town. The streets were crowded
so was the shops. Apparently they have
an upcoming festival or something. I didn't
have time to investigate those. But I found
something interesting there, a nice mobile
QEC. It was 10BC but I bought it. I mean I
spent 17BC for weed, soo.
It has this nice display and a real nice
keyboard. I just love the keyboard. And it
can voice type too, just like the fixed
one in my ship. But the thing is its range
is pretty low compared to the built in one
in my ship. But pretty sure this will come in
handy.
And I went food shopping too, if you can say
so. I bought a small handgun and a shotgun.
And btw some canned food too with some canned
drinks. The shot gun is a robust old school one.
One shot and you head will just get reduced into
some smaller parts of tissues and flesh.
And the handgun is old too, but has some pretty
cool features. It can shoot bullets and laser
beams. So it will come in handy if I had to
cut open some metal doors or robots. It's been
a while since I could get my hands on some
real gear.
But you know that those are not the real deal,
eh. I am saving up for the real deal. Maybe I will
be able to make some bucks in Callisto. So if I
am lucky, then I can get some artillery attached
to Monara yummy. Oh and a machine gun too.
And I attached a pretty strong flashlight to Monara,
and bought few handheld flash lights too. I mean
dudes we are heading to Callisto. The freaking whole
civilization is just undergroung. Who knows if we will
have to fly through some long and dark holes. But so
far I have only heard of good stories about Callisto.
As I heard the people are friendly, the tunnels are
big, secure and lighted, the food is great but green
ones are pretty expensive as they have to provide
all conditions artificially. But I heard there are
real good meat there. Apparently they have huge animal
farms, not sure if I will see some animals I've never
seen before. But whatever, now I am a free man and
will do whatever I feel like doing.
And right now I feel like I want to go to Callisto!
So catch ya later folks, Esso out!

I decided to try a new log keeping software
called Log Manager. It's not that I don't like
Log Keeper, I find it annoying to use the same
software too long.
I bought some cannabis capsules, from some well
known vendors in Vos. To be honest those are some
good quality stuff, I only spent 13MC and I could
buy two dozens of capsules. I am not very much into
those stuff, so may be I will sell few capsules.
And I just found out about this small social media like
thingy called 'space$pirates'. It's a small community of
sailors who are not bound to laws, so from now on I will be
sharing my log files with them.
It's hard to be in a small space ship all alone for months.
So at least some virtual company like this feels a little
better. I kind of feel like even my personality is now changing.
May be I will buy a small bot next time I go to a big city.
Now flying over a huge forest. It's been few hours since I left Vos.
And I already passed few towns and deserts. It's soothing to
see a forest like this, so I slowed down the ship intentionally.
I am not in a rush. And anyway I am already almost in the next
side of Ganymede. I should fix some good quality 'space boom boosters'
so I can jump to hyperspce, when I went to Callisto.
And I feel like it will be better to finish this Ganymede tour
quickly and just start my journey to Callisto. Considering its present
position, I will be able to get there in 3 or 4 days if I started
my travel this week.
I can worry about those later, now I gotta enjoy this nice forest.
Damn humans made Ganymede a whole new place!

I received your message. And I am interested in

buying some medium quality cannabis capsules for

around 5 MC. (About two dozens.)

I prefer not to give away my personal information to any

Transmission Log - Orestes
Author: Green
---------------------------------------------------------------
Auto-generating preface...
The following log is by GREEN. In it you will find his thoughts
on the current state of the mission. These can be mostly
disregarded. His sleep-cycle has been disrupted as of late. You
will also find a request for additional equipment. This should be
taken seriously and delivered upon.
-END-OF-PREFACE-
---------------------------------------------------------------
GREEN here.
Still no real signs of life from the crystals.
PINK and NAVY continue to insist that the mission is worthwhile.
PINK thinks they are all connected. Some underground network. And
NAVY, well he has his history with them. Not that I really
believe all his stories any more.
I still have faith in PINK's theory I suppose.
Send us proper surveying and excavation equipment so we can get
to proving her right or wrong, and get to getting off this
god-awful planet. We can't get any deeper than 5 meters with what
we have. It's all rock after that.
Is anyone still reading these? Who'd have thought we'd have to
rely solely on text to communicate in this day and age?
If the Arsinoe isn't receiving them, I hope at least the QEC
is...
