This is probably implementation specific, I'm using discount, I don't think the gruber spec says anything about how html should be wrapped -- to look into

If not I don't think this is fixable on the shmd end, without over complicating the project.

Gruber Markdown (v1.0.1) also wraps this is <p> tags.

It might be worthwhile to include a script that would strip these out afterwards?
