Rhinoceros is an absurdist comedy written in 1959 by the avant-garde French-Romanian playwright Ionesco. Taking place in small French village, the short play sees every inhabitant of the town save one transform into a rhinoceros. The play was a response to the Fascism of the 1930s, and explores the loss of rationality in mass movements. Other themes include racism, sexism, sexual harassment in the workplace, domestic violence, incarceration, mob mentality, conformity, culture, and logic. All together, it is a very topical play today.
