Right now, if the alt buffer is available it is used. I would like to let people choose to turn this off (some people, for various reasons, prefer to run their apps in the main terminal buffer). This should be doable by checking the setting before switching into the buffer. Switching out of the buffer should not require a check of the setting since switching out would always just set the terminal to the normal mode.
